The International Crimes Division has today begun hearing trial panel cases, starting with Uganda vs. Abdul Rashid Mbaziira & 7 Others, who are charged with the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his body guard and driver, aggravated robbery, terrorism, aiding and abetting terrorism and belonging to a terrorist organization.
The case is being heard before a panel of four judges: Justice Dr. Winfred Nabisinde, Justice Susan Okalany, Justice Richard Wabwire Wejuli, and Justice Andrew Bashaija. The case has been adjourned to Wednesday, March 26, 2025, for hearing.
Other cases scheduled for hearing this month include: Uganda vs. Sserubula Hussein & 7 Others, where the accused are charged with, among other offences, the attempted murder of Gen. Katumba Wamala and Uganda vs. Yahaya Ramathan Mwanje & 7 Others ,involving charges related to the murder of Maj. Mohammad Kiggundu.
The Court's Deputy Registrar, HW Juliet Harty Hatanga, said the support from the Principal Judge in permitting Judges from the Circuits to be part of the panels, along with the completion of the Thomas Kwoyelo case, has freed up resources for these trials to proceed.
"All factors constant, we should be able to complete these trials by the end of this year," she said.
